RSV Memory Book - Chastening

tr
Heb 12: 6 - 8 For the Lord disciplines him whom he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives. 7. It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8. If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.
Job 5: 17, 18 Behold, happy is the man whom God reproves; therefore despise not the chastening of the Almighty. 8 For he wounds, but he binds up; he smites, but his hands heal.
Ecc 8: 11 Because sentence against an evil deed is not executed speedily, the heart of the sons of men is fully set to do evil.
Prov 15: 32 He who ignores instruction despises himself, but he who heeds admonition gains understanding.
Prov 27: 5 Better is open rebuke than hidden love.
Prov 22: 15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him.
Prov 16: 6 By loyalty and faithfulness iniquity is atoned for, and by the fear of the Lord a man avoids evil.
Heb 12: 9 - 11 Besides this, we have had earthly fathers to discipline us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? 10 For they disciplined us for a short time at their pleasure, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. 11 For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant; later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
