ESV Memory Book - Chastening

Heb 12: 6 - 8 "For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives." 7 It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.
Job 5: 17, 18 Behold, blessed is the one whom God reproves; therefore despise not the discipline of the Almighty. 18 For he wounds, but he binds up; he shatters, but his hands heal.
Ecc 8: 11 Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed speedily, the heart of the children of man is fully set to do evil.
Prov 15: 32 Whoever ignores instruction despises himself, but he who listens to reproof gains intelligence.
Prov 27: 5 Better is open rebuke than hidden love.
Prov 22: 15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him.
Prov 16: 6 By steadfast love and faithfulness iniquity is atoned for, and by the fear of the Lord one turns away from evil.
Heb 12: 9 - 11 Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? 10 For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. 11 For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
